NGO rescues learners from dropping-out of school
Benaa Association for Culture and Development has provided financial assistance to 19 students from Chowe Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) in Mangochi who were about to drop out of school due to lack of fees.
Speaking after presenting the money at Kamwendo Mosque in the district, the organisation’s executive director Sheikh Chairosi Ali said they acted after parents and guardians of the students approached them.
“We took it as our responsibility that is why we decided to do something. We feel the youths need to be educated to be future leaders,” he said.

Ali said the donation also coincided with the Zakaat Month, where Muslims are asked to give out money to vulnerable people in society.
Chowe CDSS teacher Filuza Matola said the donation will compel the students to work hard, especially now that many parents in the district are willing to send their children to school.
One of the beneficiaries, Haleel Isihah, who is in Form Four, said he would work hard to achieve his dream of becoming a medical doctor.
During the function, Benaa also gave to the elderly, orphans and other vulnerable groups. The total cash donation was estimated at K2 million. n
